Hip Hop as a culture started some twenty years ago. It has since been seen as a culture. Hip Hop goes beyond being an ordinary music. It is rated to be beyond music, videos and lyrics. So many people today still believe that Hip Hop is all about Rap artists and their producers.

Before hip hop dance videos were created, history has it that, Hip Hop dance started around the late 1960s by some Hispanic men and some able-bodied African-American youths in New York. It was carved out of the culture of Hip Hop on graffiti art, rapping and scratching music. Although the Hip Hop dance style keeps evolving, basically it is composed of body popping and break dancing as the two major dance styles. The break dance is a rhythmic solo effort where the dancer enters the dance floor by moving sideways after which he breaks or takes a dive to the ground, spins on his head, shoulders or buttocks ending it with a motionless position. Body-popping dance style motion involves sharp and brisk movements of the body that creates the impression of a robot ending in a freeze stance. In the late 1970’s, the hip-hop music and hip-hop dance have been known on the international scene and are also often being used in theater dance.

Your ability to express your emotions and the passion you have for dancing are important aspects of hip hop dancing and hip hop music. You may have to apply some special techniques or skills which come through the believe you have in yourself and by also giving yourself in to emotions and the fun created as the beats roll on.

It is believed that hip hop is one of the musical genres that was developed from the hip hop mainstream and takes its definition from its additive components such as sampling, beat boxing, rapping, DJing, scratching and so on. Rapping also known as MCing and in some other places emceeing is a kind of vocal style where the artist sings or speaks lyrics to rhyme with either instrumental beats or synthesized beats. 4/4 time beats signature are usually used alongside different other portions coming from other songs. Live bands, synthesizers and drum machines are often used by modern beats today. Rappers can write, make up or memorize their lines and then give performance to a beat.

Possibly, hip-hop blog is the most popular name within urban news media. The blog is specially built to supply micro-feeds of gossip, music, columns, videos and other daily news through interactive sessions on the network.

At the moment, some people look for hip hop dance videos not just to learn the technique and have fun with the dance style. They also use these hip hop dance videos to actually exercise and keep their body fit. Dancing, especially hip hop has good effects on your health so many people try to learn it through hip hop dance videos.
The Hip Hop dance moves that we know these days are those we see in music videos. Such dancing is a blend of various techniques and styles from both unconventional and conventional dances. This means within the Hip Hop Dance of today there is indigenous folklore dance, jazz dance and something as out there as martial art.

Because of this attitude it has toward fusion, a better name for what we identify as Hip Hop dance moves would be Urban Dance. For all the added techniques and styles to the modern version, Hip Hop Dance roots back to American street dancers. For these people, the artistic forms of dancing they created are the real version of Hip Hop Dance.

Breaking & Funk Sytles
A new trend emerged in the 70s as DJs all across America mixed drum breaks (drum solos in funk and soul music) back to back using two different turn tables. This resulted in a unique new sound that is a repetitive track of drum break. The dance that emerged following this new music was called Breaking or B-Boying. Keep in mind that it was not break dancing. The non exclusive breaking forms include:
footwork – steps done with both feet on the floor, act as intro to power moves
power moves – jaw dropping series of moves done on the floor, likely to include headspins, windmills, backspins and more. These are the movements most people associate with the term Breaking or B-boying, or erroneously, break dancing.
up rock/top rock – series of movement which are more organized, falling along a specific pattern and rhythm.

Breaking was born and enjoyed its popularity in the east coast. The west coast developed their own version by doing their dance to Funk and Soul music, thus creating the Funk Styles. This happened pretty much at the same time as breaking and went on to produce many sub category of dancing genres. These subcategories include:
Popping – Movements which are jerky or robotic. Below Popping are Strobbing and Ticking with similar movements.
Waving – The opposite of popping, these movements are fluid and smooth.
Gliding/Floating – Illusion-filled movements which make the impression the dancer is moving in a gravity defying motions across the dance floor.
Locking – Animated movements involving incisive and characteristic stances.
Tutting – Movements made to mimic Egyptian Hieroglyphics.

Creating Your Own Break Dance Video

Who says that you can’t dance and flaunt it? In this generation, you can do both. A break dance video is now one of the most talked about themes in websites like YouTube. Websites like this cater to a lot of dance videos that makes the people in it quite popular. What people likes about break dancing is that they don’t need to read tons of books or memorize all equations to strut a move. They just have to perform dance and feel good about it. So to start creating your own break dance video, you must have a video camera, background music, a computer and above all, your groupies.

Step 1 – Decide
First, you have to know what kind of break dance video you wanted to create. Is this something personal intended just for the group and close friends or is the video meant to be public? Either for personal or professional use, the break dance video should be meaningful. Nobody wants to watch something ordinary or otherwise boring.

Step 2 – Casting
Who are included in your break dance video? Aside from the dancers themselves, who else? There are times wherein break dancers are motivated by inserting some comedy or story to the video. It’s more like creating a music video of your own.

Step 3 – Location
Now you have to know where you will perform. Amateur break dance videos are usually held on the streets or a vacant lot. If it’s possible then write down a script so that there will be consistency and a difference in pace then it would be better so as to ease some monotony out of the video. There should be at least three locations.

Step 4 – Shoot
Shoot as many as you can. In this way, you will be able to choose the best angles and parts of the video. You can repeat mistakes and edit them in such a way that the masses will understand how the video goes. Getting more footage is better.

Step 5 – Upload
If you are done with getting all the shots that you need, you have to move on with uploading your break dance video. Remember that apart from you getting some credit out of this, your crew will also gather some. So you have to edit accurately and make sure that the music blends well with the moves. The music must make the people party. You have to make them ask for more videos from you.

Breaking Down the Break Dance

The attraction that is break dancing is not really easy to explain. It is probably the moves, it can also be the strength and nerves it takes to execute such acrobatic maneuvers. Learning the dance takes some patience and prior knowledge, so read these tips to ensure you are well prepared to break with the greatest.

As the popularity grows, break dancing slides more and more into the mainstream. You may have some knowledge already about it but what are the essentials information you need to access before getting started?

1.Strengthening your body is extremely necessary. Fitness is also required. The dance comes with levels and graduating from beginner to intermediate means more pressure on your spine, shoulders, knees, ankles and wrists. This is why you need to ensure your body is strong and fit enough to handle the stress. Injury may still happen, however, do give your body enough healing time before diving back into the game.

2.Give the dance proper observation prior to learning. Having a hazy, less than clear idea about the essence of break dancing is one mistaken step. Watch the performance and see if you feel like changing your mind when you see a dancer spins on the head, lunges straight on to the floor or twists his or her body. Historically, this dance originated on the streets where dancers schooled wannabes by showing them the complicated moves.

3.Find yourself a teacher that is right for you. This is one of the most important things when it comes to learning break dancing. Notable experience in performing is essential but so is teaching experience. Beginner mistakes are avoided easily when you have a good teacher. You are also likely to progress that much faster.

4.The learning process can be done online, at a dance school or at a gym. While chances of finding classes at local gyms or dance schools may vary, online choices are flooding the internet. Online videos are widely available, as well as downloadable break dance instructions. This option is quite popular since it saves the potential embarrassment of making a mistake in front of many people. If you have enough space that is clear from breakable, learning break dance online is probably the best choice.

5.Start with the basic moves. You need to start with the top rock. This is the movement that is done before the drop and spin. There are varieties to this top rock movement. The second move is what is called “go down” or drops. You start with the top rock and from the standing position of this move, you drop on to the floor. It is also possible to add the funky zigzag or the corkscrew to these moves. The third part of the dance is the movement known as the freeze. This is where dancers actually stop moving altogether. This is usually done in the middle of a position that looks difficult in order to impress the audience. Power moves are what is next. This particular set is a real crowd pleaser and beginners usually want to start with them first. Still, it is necessary to master the basic moves of break dancing before moving on to the power moves.

At first glance, break dancing may look like a difficult routine to learn. But listing down separate moves makes is easier to map out your learning process and shows that anybody can learn to do the break dance and it probably won’t take too long before you wow people on the dance floor.

How to Do the Pop and Lock Movements

The Pop and Lock style of dance found under the category of hip hop comprises quick movement of the arm and leg, accompanied by short freezes or pauses. The rapid, jerky movement is what is called the pop while the short pauses are what is called the lock.

Try Different Types of Movement for the Pop and Lock
1.Consider your movements to be separate frames. Add a quick pause following every couple inches of movement. This is very similar to old animation shorts or what is called stop motion film thus the nickname “animation”.
2.Try to do the boogaloo. The point of this dance is to make it look like the dancer has very few bones. The effect is fluid motions that are also unnatural in looks.
3.Dance as you would normally dance and then stop suddenly. This is what is called dime stopping. Try for really abrupt stops. Don’t make it too long, however, stop abruptly and then continue with the dance.
4.Create the “fast forwarding” effect by moving more quickly than what is normally done. Again this is done to resemble movies.
5.Go for liquid dance. Give your movements a flowing, continuous effect. Use the hands and arms especially to get this effect.
6.Do the puppet on strings effect. Make sure you have one part of each limb steady while letting the rest dangle.
7.Slow things down. Add some subtle pauses, more often than those added in the “animation” style and also softer so as to give the appearance of dancing under a disco light.
8.Double the pop to accomplish what is called the “ticking.” Schedule this wisely as it takes a lot of energy.
9.Go for “Tutting” too, which is trying to resemble old Egyptian drawings by projecting the images of geometric shapes with your dancing.
10.Add vibration to your dance by tensing your muscles really hard to make them shake.
11.Also go for the “wave.” Give people watching you the impression of a wave going through your body. The simplest version may look cheap but complicated wave is something worth watching.
12.Go wild with your legs. Do plenty of knee rolls, twist your feet as many times as possible and do the movement fast.
13.Go for sliding, floating and gliding as well. Make it look as if you are dancing or moving in different direction with where your feet are going.

Tips:
“Gliding” is a very identifiable move in this type of dance. It is giving the impression of moving across the dance floor using no legs.
It takes good sense of rhythm to do the popping. Make sure you’re rhythmic before you give pop and lock moves a try.
